Post Mortem Analysis Laboratory


Post-Mortem Analyses are being carried out to understand the underlying physical and chemical aging processes causing the electrically measurable performance degradation. We have a well equipped and state of the art analysis laboratory in which we are performing a variety of spectroscopic and physical-chemical experiments. This enables us to holistically investigate electrochemical energy storages like lead-acid and lithium-ion accumulators at our institute. This gain of knowledge always directly feeds into a better understanding of batteries in system and field usage and into optimizing the working conditions. The results are used to further develop our electric, thermal and lifetime models (MAL), to optimize diagnostic algorithms and operational managements (BST, NIS).

  • Electron microscopy (scanning and trans), in collaboration with Central Facility for Electron Microscopy of RWTH Aachen University
